LOOKS OF A YOGA TEACHER

Earlier, it was seen that only yogis and rishis practiced YOGA& their clothes were of a certain kind. But now that is not the case.

Still knowingly or unknowingly, we have a preconceived notions about how a yoga teacher or instructor should look. I too had such beliefs. When I was attending a particular yoga workshop by lady teacher from Iyengar yoga, I realized my mistake.

She looked just like one of us. She was not wearing any designer yoga clothes. Just a simple t shirt and a tight black leggings.

This was to show how we should position our lower body e.g. knees be straight, etc.

She was not slim nor very young like the kind yoga instructors we see on social networking sites. :-)

That yoga teacher was so knowledgeable and flexible that after few seconds into the session I forgot everything, & just focused on absorbing that knowledge.

I thought that I am over this mindset, but few years back again I faced the same issue. But this time it was the age and presentation style of the said teacher. He was really young, looked like any young IT professional and it was tough for us in the initial minutes into the 1st session when he expected a class of over 150 students who were all elder to him in age, to stand up when he entered. Same thing happened with me, I.e. once he started the lecture on The Bhagwath Gita, we all became mesmerized by the knowledge & clarity he had about our Vedic literature and how he could help us relate to the same in present scenario.

I hope I have learned my lesson. But we never know how we are beliefs will be

tested in future :-)
